James Franco on soap operas as art

Relevant to some of our discussions yesterday: James Franco has signed on to do 20 episodes of the soap opera “General Hospital,” a move he has called performance art. He’s a famous enough actor that it seems implausible he should do it for any career or financial reasons… Anyway, he wrote a piece explaining his move and his obsession with performance art, and it was published in the Wall Street Journal. Not bad!

(In case the link doesn’t work–WSJ is a bit finicky about paywalls and such–just Google the article’s title: “A Star, a Soap, and the Meaning of Art,” and it should be the first result.)
